Overview
The La Verna to Assisi route follows the northern arc of the Via di Francesco as a contiguous subset of the longer Firenze trunk, beginning at the Santuario della Verna and ending in Assisi. Our published stage chain walks roughly 212 km across ten stages, descending out of the Apennines through Pieve Santo Stefano, crossing into the upper Tiber valley at Sansepolcro, and threading the Umbrian hills via Citerna, Città di Castello, Pietralunga, Gubbio, and Valfabbrica before climbing the final ridge to Assisi. The path mixes forest tracks, farm roads, and short town stretches, with several long climbs and descents that reward an unhurried pace. Pilgrims who have only a week to two weeks of walking time often choose this section because it offers a coherent start-to-finish arrival in Assisi without requiring the full Florence departure.
