Today's walk climbs CAI trails 72, 76 and 70 up into the mountains of the Foreste Casentinesi, offering wide panoramas of its thickly wooded peaks. With good timing a visit on the optional route is possible to Eremo Camaldoli, an important Benedictine monastery of deep and genuine calm that has been tucked into this high valley since the 11th century. Although the distance seems short, after a steep downhill to the tiny village of Camaldoli, you will have earned a good rest.
