Accommodation Guide
Understanding the types of places to stay along the Way.
Types of Hospitality
1. Accoglienza "Povera" / Religiosa (Religious)
Run by convents, monasteries, or parishes.
- Cost: Confirm the charge or offering policy for the exact accommodation and type of stay; religious hospitality does not have one shared price.
- Facilities: Basic. Bunk beds. Shared bathrooms. Bring a sleeping bag/sheet liner.
- Rules: Curfew is common (e.g., 9:30 PM). Credential required.
- Booking: Often requires a phone call a day in advance.
2. Ostello (Hostel)
Municipal or private hostels.
- Cost: €20 - €30.
- Facilities: Bunk beds, communal kitchen, social atmosphere.
3. Agriturismo & B&B
Private rooms in farmhouses or homes.
- Cost: €40 - €80+.
- Facilities: Private bath, linens provided, often includes a robust breakfast.
- Booking: Can often be booked online (Booking.com).
Etiquette
- Donativo: Ask the host what the term means for this stay: free hospitality, a voluntary offering, a suggested contribution, a required minimum or a fixed charge. Keep a suggestion separate from an amount you must pay. Confirm what is included and how to pay before arrival; there is no universal minimum or formula for generosity.
- Silence: Respect quiet hours in dorms.
